The Sheffield Jesus Centre will offer a personal and non judgmental approach to all who come. The Centre will welcome people from all creeds, nationalities and backgrounds without prejudice. A wide range of activities and services are being developed. These include services to practical, social and educational needs as well as encouraging spiritual life and growth.
Services will include a drop-in facility for people in particular need, with provision for laundry, food, showers and so on; a skills suite with IT facilities and courses in a wide variety of subjects (for example: ESOL, Citizenship, basic life skills, arts and crafts). There will be a range of cultural, social and welfare support groups offering something for all people of ages and interests.
We expect our Community cafe to become a popular meeting place for anyone who wants a cup of tea and a chat. Indeed, one of the strengths of the project is that many of the staff themselves have experienced life on society's margins.
We are carrying out extensive local research to ensure that the Jesus Centre meets real needs in the area without duplicating services already being provided by other organisations, so that we can really help people.
