Lord Mayor Ken Taylor shared breakfast with people at a Coventry charity centre which offers discount meals.
The Jesus Centre, in Lamb Street, opened in May and serves around 40 people each morning - mainly the homeless. Breakfast costs 50p and there is free tea, coffee, bread and jam.
Seventy volunteers work at the centre, which also provides meals for 50p on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Visitors also enjoy activities or trips each Thursday afternoon, and a cafe is open each lunchtime to help pay for the costs. Cllr Taylor was so impressed with the centre - and the breakfast provided - that he offered to donate clothes to pass on to people.
Service co-ordinator Carole Rust said any donations of money or clothing would be gratefully received.
